H.E. AUGUSTO JÚNIOR TRINDADE, currently the Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry, was a political activist and a member of the National Resistance of East Timorese Students (RENETIL).

From 1993 to 1999, he led the IMPETTU organization in the East Java province of Indonesia, where he played a key role in mobilizing East Timorese students to participate in the referendum for East Timorese independence. His prominent role as one of the demonstrators during the occupation of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs premises in Jakarta by East Timorese students in 1998 is also noteworthy.

Following President B.J. Habibie’s decree on East Timor’s future, H.E. AUGUSTO JÚNIOR TRINDADE and fellow students returned to East Timor to organize the “Ukun Rasik Aan” referendum for national independence. He became a member of the CPCC and actively worked to mobilize people for the referendum in the regions of Oecusse, Bobonaro, Ermera, and Liquiça.

From 1999 to 2000, he served as Chief Negotiator, leading talks with UNTAET to ensure that Timorese students could continue their studies in Indonesia. Later, he assumed the role of Head of the National Organization for Democracy and Peace, where he promoted programs focusing on conflict resolution, democracy, peace, and reconciliation.

Between 2000 and 2006, he was one of the key figures behind the establishment of the Democratic Party (Partido PD). During this period, he also worked as the Manager for Microfinance Affairs at the international organization Christian Children’s Fund and held a similar position at AMCAP (Ainaro, Manatuto, Covalima Activation Program).

In the first term of President José Ramos-Horta (2007-2012), H.E. AUGUSTO JÚNIOR TRINDADE served as Advisor for the Fight Against Poverty and Conflict Prevention, playing a pivotal role in the implementation of the President’s program to establish Dili as the “City of Peace,” based at the Palacio da Cinzas in Caicoli, Dili.

From 2012 to 2017, during the fifth Constitutional Government, H.E. AUGUSTO JÚNIOR TRINDADE served as the Advisor for Industrial and Cooperative Affairs to the Secretary of State for Industry and Cooperatives, H.E. Mr. Filipus Nino Pereira. In the same year, he also advised the Ministers of Social Affairs and Education on the monitoring and supervision of the school meals program.

From 2018 to 2021, he served as President of the National Logistics Center (CLN).

In 2022, during President José Ramos-Horta’s second term, H.E. AUGUSTO JÚNIOR TRINDADE was appointed Advisor for Strategic Issues related to the development of Timor-Leste’s coffee industry.
