The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), through the National Directorate for Commercial Regulation and Consumer Protection (DNRCPC), participated in the 32𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙎𝙀𝘼𝙉 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 (𝘼𝘾𝘾𝙋), held in Yangon, Myanmar, from 18 to 20 May 2026, as part of Timor-Leste’s engagement as a full member within the ASEAN framework.
The ACCP is a regular regional forum that brings together consumer protection authorities from ASEAN Member States. Convened biannually, the meeting aims to strengthen regional cooperation, enhance policy coordination, and advance consumer protection mechanisms across the ASEAN region.
During the meeting, Timor-Leste presented updates on the progress of implementing its Consumer Protection Regime, particularly regarding the enforcement of 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗡𝗼. 𝟴/𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟲. This initiative reflects the Government’s continued commitment to strengthening consumer rights, improving consumer safety, and ensuring effective legal protection nationwide.
Timor-Leste also contributed substantively to several key agenda items, including:
- Identifying strategic priorities within the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), particularly in relation to consumer protection initiatives;
- Proposing national activities to commemorate International Consumer Protection Day;
- Confirming Timor-Leste’s preparedness to implement Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms as national priorities aligned with AEC objectives;
- Supporting the implementation of the 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗔𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗖𝗣) 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲–𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬, including capacity-building initiatives to strengthen institutional capabilities and human resource development for ASEAN integration;
- Expressing readiness to assume responsibility for chairing and hosting ACCP Meetings in 2033, 2035, and 2036;
- Actively participating in agenda deliberations and contributing to the formulation and implementation of the ACCP Action Plan.
The Timor-Leste delegation to the 32nd ACCP Meeting included the MCI Focal Point for ASEAN Affairs, Ms. 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮, and the Advisor for Trade and Industry Affairs and Alternative Focal Point for Consumer Protection, Mr. 𝗡𝘂𝗻𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗥𝗼𝘀á𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗱𝗲.
