Official Visit of the Prime Minister of the RDTL Reinforces Bilateral Relations between Timor-Leste and Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam, 8 June 2026 – His Excellency Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (RDTL), paid tribute to Vietnam’s national heroes and martyrs through a wreath-laying ceremony at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Ba Dinh Square, Hanoi.

The commemorative ceremony marked the commencement of the Prime Minister’s three-day official visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, scheduled from 8 to 10 June 2026.

As part of the official programme, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão will participate in the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) 2026 and deliver Timor-Leste’s national statement during the opening session of the forum on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. In addition to his participation, the Prime Minister will also make an intervention during the opening proceedings of the forum.

The visit will further strengthen cooperation between Timor-Leste and Vietnam through the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering key areas, including visa exemption, education, higher education, and institutional cooperation between the Tatoli News Agency and the Vietnam News Agency.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by a distinguished delegation comprising two Deputy Prime Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Minister of Education, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Vice Minister for ASEAN Affairs, and the Secretary of State for Social Communication.

The official visit reflects Timor-Leste’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Vietnam and enhancing cooperation across strategic sectors of mutual interest.
