THE COMMEMORATION OF WORLD MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES DAY IN TIMOR-LESTE
Díli, 26 June 2025 – The Directorate General of Industry, through the National Directorate supporting the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), organized a fair to celebrate the eighth World MSMEs Day globally, and for the second time in Timor-Leste under the theme: “Together, Creating a Strong and Sustainable Future for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.”
The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Nino Pereira, in his speech, highlighted all the efforts made by operators and economic agents to boost the national economy.
“We look at all the efforts that our operators and economic agents are making to boost the economy as a real effort to contribute to the development of the national economy. We are talking about a general policy of poverty reduction—this is a political statement by the 9th Constitutional Government to reduce poverty to 10% during its term, and we want to promote economic growth to reach 5%. Although it is a challenge, we also want to support employment rates.” The Minister of MCI made this statement
“Strong, resilient, and sustainable Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)—we are grateful for the existence of MSMEs that have managed to export.”
The fair, held over three (3) days from June 26 to 28, brought together twenty-one (21) groups from the municipality of Liquiçá and Díli, showcasing various products including detergent, moringa oil, food products, café goods, and handicrafts.
