MCI Holds Meeting with Street Vendors

Dili, December 19, 2025

The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Nino Pereira, held a meeting with street vendors to hear their concerns regarding their business activities. The meeting took place at the MCI Auditorium in Fomento, Mandarin, Dili.

The purpose of this meeting was to give recognition to street vendors as a vital part of the informal sector in economic development. Through their efforts in self-employment, they contribute to the nation's growth and are being prepared for market competition, particularly within the ASEAN framework.

During the meeting, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the contribution of street vendors who, for many years and through their own initiative, have assisted the State and the Government by creating their own jobs.

The Minister emphasized that he will coordinate with relevant parties to address the problems and challenges faced by street vendors. He reiterated the Government's commitment to "leave no citizen behind," continuing efforts to provide support through training, equipment, and business facilitation, especially as Timor-Leste has now joined ASEAN.
